Utilizing a thin, low Z material at the energy entrance surface of the crystal helps improve the detector sensitivity at energies from several keV up to 60 keV. The thin material is usually called the energy entrance window and typical windows are made of thin aluminum (A) or thin beryllium (B). In the table below, model numbers for the windows are either “1” 0.005” thick or “2” 0.010” thick. These detectors are very useful in detecting low energy gamma and x-rays. These units are available in the three basic styles of open face, integral or demountable.
F.I.D.L.E.R. Type
The ASI F.I.D.L.E.R. (Field Instrument for the Detection of Low Energy Radiation) probe has been approved for use in DOE, EPA and NASA field applications. The F.I.D.L.E.R. is a special thin window design. Our detector satisfies strict performance requirements for energy resolution, geometric detection efficiency, and low background and is an improved version of the G5 detector due to its ruggedness. Our F.I.D.L.E.R. probe features a rugged thick-walled machined aluminum housing which provides added mechanical and thermal protection. A spun aluminum light shield is used to minimize the overall weight of the detector. An added feature is the inclusion of an aluminum cover that is shipped with every detector. The cover protects the beryllium or aluminum entrance window when the detector is not in use. Our F.I.D.L.E.R. is the most reliable F.I.D.L.E.R. detector offered by any company. Its mechanical robustness adds to the detector lifetime.

As options we can provide the following:
- Various NaI(Tl) crystal thicknesses or diameters
- Aluminum entrance windows
- Customer selected connectors: SHV and BNC, MHV or C type available
- Low background voltage divider internally or externally decoupled
- Brushed aluminum or chrome finish on crystal housing. Chrome plating is useful for clean-up, especially when the detector is used in a field application and there is a concern that the detector may have been contaminated.

- Protective cap with Kapton film window. The Kapton window is also useful in field applications or anytime there is a possibility of puncturing the thin energy entrance window. It provides some protection against damaging the energy entrance window.

Repair Service
ASI also provides cost-saving F.I.D.L.E.R. repair service. A failed or damaged detector can be repaired to new condition and supplied with a full 2 year warranty at a fraction of the cost of a new detector. Detectors can be sent to our facility for free evaluation. Please call and request an RMA number before sending a detector to us for evaluation.
